November 13, 2006, LAGOS-NIGERIA-- Netcom Africa, IP communication provider of wireless broadband and VSAT products recently donated VSAT Internet equipment with one full year Internet access to the Victoria Island primary school. The company partnered with Rotary club, District 9110, Victoria Island on a project that promotes the education of primary school teachers on computers and Internet education.

Speaking on the educational project, Mrs. Ololade Shonubi, Netcom's marketing manager said that ‘Netcom Africa is committed to supporting Internet awareness and education in the communities we serve and will strive to continue to add value to lives. Teachers are the core of education in every society and investing in enhancing their knowledge means that they will in turn be able to better prepare our children for life in this Information Age." She also explained that the company will continue to work with esteemed organizations like Rotary Club, Victoria Island to help equip Nigerian teachers and students with the Internet knowledge required to conform to any society in the world."

Speaking further on the project, Mr. Tope Fashedemi, HOD Corporate development and strategy for Netcom said that the main focus of Netcom's corporate social responsibility plan is to provide consistent support and enhance Internet awareness and knowledge in Nigeria. Mr. Fashedemi, who is a fervent believer in the possibility of harnessing opportunities presented by ICT and Telecoms industry to help empower the often neglected and under-privileged Nigerian youth, said that this donation to Victoria Island Primary school is strategic and will help in 'catching them young' by laying a solid foundation in ICT skills.

Mr. Chinadu Ebo, President of Rotary Club Victoria Island also commented that the association was grateful to Netcom for partnering with them on this important project "The donation of computers by Rotary Club Victoria Island and Internet service by Netcom will make it possible for the teachers to better educate students about the vast resources of the Internet and to use existing computer equipment more effectively in the classroom, ‘he said.
